Every now and again I get the urge go back in time and toss the software aside. This was one of those days. We pulled together a group of local musicians; Bobby Magyarosi, Mike Freeman, Brandon Mcleod and Chris Rajt and held them hostage while we set everything up using the Trident 80B, our trusty 8 track ADAT Machine and just about every piece of outboard gear on our racks such as EQ’s and compressors. It was a CRAZY day to say the least, but we made it happen (just a few bumps and bruises). Studio engineer Kyle Saloka took the reins and honestly without him, we would still be there trying to make this happen!
So what did we accomplish and what did we learn? In short, we were all really surprised at how good the recorded audio sounded. It wasn’t some fancy 2-inch tape machine, it was literally this ancient ADAT that we pulled out of our storage but it surprising had this really cool mojo, punch and clarity. It’s kind of tough to explain. This much I can say, we left that day making plans to do it again. It was fun and worth it. Tracking without looking at a computer screen was the icing on the cake. So, let us know when you want to track your next record on our ADAT! Shout out to Bobby, Mike, Brandon and Chris for playing along with our crazy ideas.
