SOUNDSCAPE SCHOOL FOR THE RECORDING ARTS
Royal Oak, MI
Learn to record, mix, and master like a pro
The Soundscape School for the Recording & Mixing Arts was founded by lead instructor and chief engineer Tim Smith in 2008 and has since then expanded to become one of the most highly respected institutions for audio education in the Midwest. With over thirty years of working professionally in the music industry, Tim laid out the foundation for each of our offered programs. His audio background knowledge spans from analogue to digital recording as well as live sound engineering.
Throughout his career as a performing and recording artist, Tim independently released nine albums worldwide, handled a Michigan based music distribution company (with over 160 Midwest accounts), toured the United States four times as a performing musician, and lastly founded one of the city’s most rapidly growing recording-mixing training facilities to date.
More recently, recording, mixing engineer Tim Smith developed a unique training system for molding and shaping a new breed of sound balance engineers! Needless to say, each of our State Licensed Programs are privately taught by one of our talented instructors, handpicked and personally trained by Tim Smith, on-site at the Soundscape Recording Studio in Royal Oak Michigan.
We offer flexible course schedules catering to the needs of each of our students. There are no prerequisites, previous education, or training required for any of our offered programs. In Addition, students may also take advantage of (unpaid) work experience internship opportunities immediately following successful program completion. STUDENT REVIEWS
…Working one on one with Tim was not only enjoyable but it was an amazing learning experience. I walked into this course with very little knowledge about recording and walked out with the skillset to start a new career. This class gave me 100% hands on training, not just in front of a computer. I was able to work with musicians throughout the class as I learned how to properly capture sound with absolute commercial results. If this is what you want to do then this is the class you need to take.
…Overall experience was great! I learned a lot more than I thought, although I really didn’t know what to expect. It was difficult and challenging however with hard work I made it through the program. For sure I would recommend this class to anyone at all interested.
…I really enjoyed the class. It was much more intense of a program than I expected but I never felt like I couldn’t keep up. I learned a lot and have a good understanding about recording real instruments, mic placement and commercial mixing techniques. This was a GREAT program for me being new to everything and I would without a doubt recommend this to anyone else who is interested in pursuing a career in studio recording or mixing.
…This class has been life changing for me. I love everything that has to do with sound and audio. I learned more than I expected and my teacher, Tim, did a great job. He’s a genius and a visionary. This class was VERY challenging, yet if you love music than this IS the place for you and you will succeed. I also enjoyed meeting and working with like-minded musicians while having the hands-on experience with professional audio gear! If you have the passion for sound and music, then come to The Soundscape Studio & School for the Recording Arts. Magic happens here.
